2400 children in Child Care Institutes in J&K: Govt | KNO

‘69 CCIs sanctioned, 63 established, 6 more being established’

Srinagar, Mar 08 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir government on Saturday said that there are around 2400 children living Child Care Institutes in the region and that all the requisite interventions are being made for the overall development of these children. Replying to the question of MLA Pampore Justice Hasnain Masoodi, Minister for Social Welfare Sakina Itoo as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that the department is committed for welfare of all the children in need of care and protection and children in conflict with law. “Mission Vatsalya is monitoring and inspecting the existing CCIs and provides all necessary help and assistance as required as per the guidelines of Mission Vatsalya," she said, adding that there are 1796 children in government run Child Care Institutes while 579 are in eight private institutions. She added that the number of government run CCI registered under Juvenile justice act 2015 is 69 while NGO run CCI registered under Juvenile justice act 2015 is 58. Regarding the steps taken to ensure registration of left out institutions to ensure their compliance with law, she said that notice issued to unregistered CCIs Dealing with children in need of care and Protection, with the direction to register the institutions as per sub-section (1) of section 41 of Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection) Act, 2015. "Subsequently, Circular instructions issued to all District Child Protection officers of 35K to strictly adhere to the procedure prescribed under aforementioned circular and ensure gathering of information pertaining to the unregistered NGOs working for the welfare of children besides ensuring registration of "All un-registered NGOs working for the welfare of Children in the UT of J&K under Mission Vatsalya (erstwhile ICPS) under the provision of sub-section (1) of section 41 of Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection) Act, 2015," she said. "The Department submits financial proposal to Project Approval Board (PAB), Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India every financial year wherein a proposal is submitted to grant approval for setting up of new Child Care Institutions at district level and sub division level, as the case may be," Sakina said. "Out of 69 Government run CCIs, 63 CCIs have been established and are functional in JBK. 06 CCIs have been approved by the PAB and are under process for establishment," she added—(KNO)
